Day 2: Congress still leaderless in House

PORVORIM: The embarrassment to the Congress party extended to the second day of the Assembly session on Tuesday, as they failed to nominate their leader in the House, who would be designated as Leader of the Opposition.
Hit by the defection of ten MLAs, including their legislative party leader, the monsoon session of the State Legislative Assembly began on Monday with no Leader of the Opposition as Congress failed to nominate one. The situation didn’t change on Tuesday, with Congress MLAs themselves unaware as by when the High command would decide and announce the leader.
Former chief minister and Congress MLA Digambar Kamat told media persons outside the Legislative Assembly complex that the party’s Goa desk incharge Dr Chellakumar has met all the MLAs and has gone to New Delhi with their views. “The decision about the new Leader of the Opposition will be announced from New Delhi,” he said.
With the defection of ten MLAs, Congress is currently left with only five MLAs in the House.
