PANJIM: A day after Goa Women’s Forum (GWF) protested outside the pay toilet at Panjim Bus stand objecting to overcharging of people, Kadamba Transport Corporation Limited (KTCL) on Saturday put up a board displaying the exact charges.
On Friday, World Consumers Day, GWF volunteers protested outside the pay toilet and demanded that KTCL initiate disciplinary action against the contractor. The volunteers also demanded that the authorities display exact charges to ensure the consumers are not cheated.
“Overcharging of women and men consumers using the pay toilet of the KTC Bus stand, Panjim has been going on for a longtime. The initial protests by GWF and the large number of complaints recorded in the Complaint Book resulted in the termination of the Contractor in December 2018. However, despite appointment of a new Contractor, the situation has not improved,” GWF Convener Lorna Fernandes had said.
She informed reporters on Saturday that KTCL has heeded to their demand by fixing up a board displaying exact charges at the pay toilet.
As part of its ongoing Women’s Rights Awareness Month, GWF has decided reach out to women consumers using KTC bus stands all over Goa to file complaints against overcharging at pay toilets and to defend rights of women to get proper toilet facilities across all public places.
