PANJIM: Within hours of arriving in Goa from his visit to USA for a health check-up, Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar was on Thursday flown to Mumbai for some medical tests.
Parrikar has been admitted in Lilavati Hospital in Mumbai and is expected to return on Sunday. It is learnt that the Chief Minister was admitted for a few hours in Goa Medical College and Hospital (GMC) on Wednesday night after he complained of uneasiness.
“Chief Minister left for Mumbai for routine medical tests and will not be available till August 25,” the CMO said in a statement issued on Thursday.
Sources stated that Chief Minister would be at Lilavati Hospital for a checkup for a full day. “Doctors in USA had advised that he conduct some medical tests, reports of which could be forwarded to them,” sources said.
Sources also confirmed that Parrikar was admitted in GMC. “It was a long journey for Chief Minister on Wednesday. Soon after his arrival, he participated in the Kalash Yatra of former Prime Minister Late Atal Bihari Vajpayee. This resulted in physical exertion,” sources stated.
The Chief Minister had arrived from the USA on Wednesday evening. He had flown to USA on August 10 for follow up treatment pertaining to his pancreatic ailment. On his arrival from the USA via Mumbai he had carried and urn containing the Vajpayee’s ashes.
The Chief Minister drove to his personal residence after coming to Goa and has not attended office since the return from USA. He, however, approved sanction to Rs 5 crore financial assistance towards the Kerala CM relief fund for operations in flood affected areas.
Parrikar has been suffering from a pancreatic ailment since mid-February. After treatment at Lilavati, he was shifted to the Sloan Kettering Cancer Centre in USA. Parrikar had returned from his first USA visit on June 14.
