Day temperatures expected to be above normal: IMD

PANJIM: The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has urged public to be cautious in the second week of May, as the day temperature is expected to be four degree above normal.

The State government has already issued precautionary order stating that Goa may experience a ‘heat wave’ from May 8 to 14. However, IMD said that though the maximum temperature in the second week of May could be three-four degree higher than the normal, it may not necessarily meet the meteorological criteria for declaring ‘heat wave’.

“It is, however, advised to take precautions and inform public to be cautious. Also, the temperature together with the humidity condition may affect the comfort level,” IMD said.

Government has issued Dos and Don’ts as part of the precautionary measure during the period.

The government has requested line departments to be more vigilant and cautious to handle the circumstances, if the situation arises. In order to put measures in place line departments have been requested to prepare heat wave preparedness plan as per the advisory for heat waves.

On Thursday, the maximum temperature recorded was 34.5 Degree Celsius, while the night temperature was at 28.4 Degree Celsius.

Meanwhile, IMD has predicted thunderstorms accompanied with lightning at isolated places on Saturday.
