PONDA: In a daring daylight house robbery at new Housing Board Colony, Curti Ponda, thieves broke open a flat belonging to Narsinha Naik by damaging the lock of the front door and fled with gold ornament worth around Rs 10 lakh.
Although the owner claimed the robbery of gold worth Rs 10 lakh stolen, the police officials suspected it might be worth around Rs 2 lakh.
The theft occurred within two hours after the inmates went out for their work. The flat is located on second floor of the building.
According to Narsinha he left his house in the morning at around 10 am while his two sons and wife had left for work early morning.
When Narsinha returned back at around 12 pm, he found the main door of the house open. When he went inside, he found a cupboard ransacked, with things strewn all around. On checking further, he found that jewellery kept inside a locker of the cupboard was missing.
Ponda Police pressed service of finger print expert and also of dog squad however there was no breakthrough in the case yet.
