VASCO: Following a joint site inspection conducted by the Mormugao Municipal Council (MMC) and local internet cable and Cable TV operators, a decision was reached to remove dead overhead cables from electricity poles. In the second phase, when underground power cabling begins, provisions will be made to shift all data and TV cables underground.
Girish Borkar, MMC Chairperson, emphasised that while work is underway for underground power cabling and trenching along the road, it was essential to address the issue of unsightly cables on electric poles. He explained that eliminating dead wires and eventually placing data and TV cables underground would enhance the town’s appearance and safety.
Councillor Shami Salkar noted that the dead data cables hanging on the roads posed risks to pedestrians, especially senior citizens, and previously led to accidents, including a fatal ones.
