CANACONA: The Fire Department of Canacona, on the specific orders from the deputy collector’s office, recently cleared 60 dead or partially dead trees and other trees which were posing serious danger to commuters’ life and property between Polem and Gulem on either side of NH.
However, still there are over 60 trees which are either dead or partially dead overhanging on the either side of NH from Navelim in Salcete till Polem in Canacona which needs immediate clearing to avoid any sort of incident in case this trees fall on the road.
It may be recalled that on persistent follow up since last couple of years by Association of Businessmen of Canacona (ABC), the deputy collector had instructed the Canacona fire department to clear the trees which were identified for posing danger to the flow of traffic on NH.
Diogo Da Silva, the president of ABC, says that he is unhappy over the unconcerned attitude of the PWD officials for not removing dead trees on the sides of NH from Navelim to Polem.
“There are over 60 big and medium size trees on either side of the NH from Navelim to Polem which are fully dead or partially dead dangling over the highway posing serious danger to road users and their vehicles,” Da Silva said.
, adding these withered trees can be and should be felled by invoking provisions of disaster management Act.
