PANJIM: The Department of Tourism on Friday extended to Monday, October 30, the deadline for submitting the applications for erection of beach shacks, deck beds, umbrellas and other seasonal structures on beaches across Goa for the tourist season 2023-26.
The applications will be accepted till 1 pm on October 30. Earlier, Friday, October 27 was the last date for submission of applications as per the previously issued public notice. Shack operators and other stakeholders have been expressing concern over the inordinate delay in beach shack allocations even a month after full-fledged commencement of the tourist season in Goa.
So far nearly 900 applications have received for the erection of 359 shacks for the current season. Of these maximum about 700 applications have been received in North Goa district and about 200 forms in the South Goa district.
The shacks will be allotted as per the lots drawn on November 3. Meanwhile, a petition filed by five shack operators challenging the experience criteria for allotment of shacks will come up for hearing before the High Court of Bombay at Goa on Monday.
