The bridge connecting Ward 1 and 7 in Tuem is currently in a
critical state, demanding urgent attention due to its deteriorating condition.
This bridge was constructed almost three decades ago and is now showing visible
signs of wear and tear, such as potholes and cracks, which pose a significant
danger to commuters and increase the risk of accidents.
The problem initially came to light four years ago when
cracks first appeared on the bridge. Despite the local residents bringing this
issue to the attention of the authorities at that time, unfortunately, no
action was taken. Frustrated by the lack of response from the authorities, the
locals have now taken matters into their own hands by temporarily covering the
potholes with mud.
Furthermore, the road
beside the bridge has developed a ditch that is now hidden beneath
overgrown grass, making it hazardous for commuters who may not see it. With the
ongoing Ganesh festival, concerns have escalated, as the bridge may not be able
to withstand the weight of the traffic during the idol immersion.
The residents are requested the Public Works Department
(PWD), the local MLA, and the Panchayat to address this issue. They are
requesting either an immediate repair of the bridge or, if that is not feasible
within a short timeframe, the implementation of a temporary solution to ensure
the safety of commuters during the festival. The long-term repair can follow
subsequently.
