MAPUSA: Seeking the Chief Minister’s attention on this issue, Porvorim MLA Rohan Khaunte demanded an immediate lockdown at Paithona Salvador do Mundo or for it to be declared as a containment zone. This was in reaction to a positive case being detected in the area.
Khaunte suspected this to be the first case of local transmission and said this has created panic and anxiety amongst the residents of Porvorim ‘as they are unaware of the gravity of the situation.’
“This particular area has approximate population of 150 to 200 people and till the reports of the primary contacts of the active patient along with other members of the area are know, the area should be lockdown to prevent further spread of virus,” said the MLA in his letter to the CM..
“ I want to assure every Porvorkar that we are taking all the precautions to minimize the spread of the virus. Our administration is in constant touch with the Health Department to provide the best possible treatment to the patient and ensuring everyone in touch with the patient is quarantined. I urge Porvorkars to avoid leaving their home unless very necessary.” Khaunte tweeted on Wednesday.
