MARGAO: The Margao Comunidade is likely to take a decision, in mid-February, on allotting its land for upgrading the St Joaquim Chapel at Borda into a church.
Comunidade Attorney Celestino Noronha said that a decision on the issue would be taken only after the comunidade elections scheduled on January 18.
He said that the annual general meeting of the Margao Comunidade would be convened sometime in mid-February wherein a decision would be taken on whether to allot land to the chapel or not. The Margao Comunidade comprises of 600-odd members.
Celestino informed that some thirty years ago, the comunidade had allotted land to the then parish priest Fr Monteiro for construction of a community hall and cemetery. “We can allot land for a church and a request for the same was submitted by the Borda Chapel Committee on May 29, 2015. We will look into this request.”
Celestino said that the AGM plays a role only on allotting land and not thereafter. The responsibility of the comunidade ends with the allotment of land, he added.
