MARGAO: Town and Country Planning Minister Vijai Sardesai on Wednesday said the government will decide on the proposal to divert the Margao-Panjim bound traffic via Mormugao on December 28.
Vijai, who met traffic police for their views, disclosed that the government was interacting with all people on this matter and added that the views of the traffic police who have prepared a plan to divert different vehicles through different routes will also be considered.
The traffic police have classified the vehicles into two-wheelers, light commercial vehicles, heavy vehicles, public carriers and interstate buses and accordingly have prepared a plan to divert each category of vehicle via separate route.
He said on Thursday he would meet the local residents and take their views and also consider what the comunidades have to say. He admitted that most sections are opposed to diverting the traffic and in favour of a separate parallel road.
“There are serious concerns expressed over transporting of the sick to Bambolim hospital and that too has to be considered,” said Vijai.
“In my opinion we should wait till the Mandovi Bridge is commissioned so that people can see the benefits of that bridge and accordingly plan and accept a few hardships for the Zuari Bridge,” he said adding that no change should be made during the festive season.
There will be plenty of tourists in Goa at least till January 7, 2019, he said and added that there should not be any diversion at least till January 10.
