Decks cleared for construction of new CCP building

PANJIM: Decks have been cleared for the construction of the new building of the Corporation of the City of Panaji (CCP) as the latter has paid infrastructure tax and development fees to the North Goa Planning and Development Authority (NGPDA).

According to sources, the CCP has paid an amount of Rs 91,68,720 as infrastructure fee and Rs 3,34,890 as development charges to the NGPDA.

“We have made the payment and informed the Goa State Urban Development Agency. Now the GSUDA will start its work. A copy of the payment has been submitted to GSUDA. In fact, the line of work has started,” the sources said.

The sources said the CCP office will be shifted to the old Excise building till the new building comes up.

“Currently wiring work is going on in the old excise building. Most probably we will shift there next month. The current building from where the CCP is functioning will be completely demolished to make way for the construction of the new building,” a senior CCP official said.

Chief Minister Pramod Sawant had laid the foundation stone for the Rs 75 crore worth re-construction of the CCP building in October last year.

After the foundation stone was laid, CCP Mayor Rohit Monserrate had said that the first phase of the new CCP building will be completed within a year and half.

The CCP office building is to be constructed on a total area of 14,700 square metres. The building will comprise a basement, four floors, an open central plaza of 600 square metres, provisions for parking 250-odd four-wheelers and will house commercial shops and offices, the CCP’s office and the main town hall.

It was the second foundation stone laid for the building. Earlier the foundation stone was also laid for the new building in November 2021.
