PANJIM: The State government on Friday announced to commence a dedicated cancer Out Patient Department (OPD) at Goa Medical College and Hospital (GMC), Bambolim, on pilot basis from April 15.
Health Minister Vishwajit Rane said that a tripartite agreement between the Government of India, Government of Goa, and Tata Memorial Hospital will be signed shortly to provide world-class cancer treatment services and facilities.
Rane said that with rising cancer cases in the State of Goa, we are working unabatedly to build a ‘State Cancer Institute’ so that citizens of Goa do not have to travel outside the State to seek treatment.
“We shall be starting a pilot project from April 15, 2023, where a dedicated cancer OPD will be started at GMC,” Rane said adding that necessary instructions have been issued to GMC Dean and Health Secretary to ensure the operational of the facility.
Rane said that Tata Memorial Hospital will provide all technical support in the areas of services, manpower, training and research at the Tata Institute. The Minister had detailed productive discussion with officials from Tata Memorial Hospital, in the presence of Health Secretary Arun Kumar Mishra, Dean of GMC Dr Bandekar, Dr Anupama Borkar, and representatives from HSCC.
