MARGAO: Deepak Karangate was elected unopposed as the sarpanch of Paroda Village Panchayat in the election held at the panchayat premises, on Monday. His name was proposed by Deputy Sarpanch Sarita Fernandes and seconded by John Fernandes.
Incidentally, Deepak served as a sarpanch of the panchayat from 2012 till 2017 and was in fact touted to be the sarpanch after the elections in 2017 but MLA Clafasio Dias made Inacio Tereza, the sarpanch. Inacio was voted out of office on April 8, following a no confidence motion passed by the other panchayat members. Meanwhile, the election of Sarzora Panchayat sarpanch scheduled for Wednesday has been postponed to May 13.
