QUEPEM: Deepali Naik has been elected unopposed as chairperson of Quepem municipal council at a special meeting held on Thursday.
The chairperson’s post had fallen vacant after the resignation of Suchitra Shirvoikar, who as per the mutual agreement between the majority councillors.. The chairperson’s post is reserved for women councillors.
During the election, the four Congress-backed councillors abstained. The council comprises 13 members.
The new chairperson Deepali Naik outlined her agenda for future development of the town. She said that she will carry forward all the development work undertaken during the tenure of Shirvoikar and without any discrimination.
Councillors Suchitra Shirovikar, Dayesh Naik, Amol Kanekar. Chetan Haldankar, Prasad Phaldesai andf Ganpat Modak were present.
Later, former Deputy Chief Minister Chandrakant ‘Babu’ Kavalekar’ met the BJP-backed councillors and extended his support to them.
