MARGAO: Maulana Ibrahim filed a complaint with the Fatorda police against unknown persons for “besmirching” his reputation and urged the police to take action against those responsible for defaming him in the social media.
He said social media like Facebook and WhatsApp have been rife with messages alleging that he is responsible for the ban on fishing ordered by the Directorate of Fisheries along with another message of a picture of a trawler implying that his fishing business continues unhindered.
Ibrahim said he fully supports the government directions and added that the messages besides tarnishing his image and name are also aimed at sullying the precautionary steps taken by the Fisheries Department to contain the virus.
He said when the country is waging a battle against the virus, such messages create doubts in the minds of the public not only about the government but also fellow citizens and could cause panic amongst the people.
PI Kapil Nayak admitted having received the complaint and said police will investigate the matter.
