MARGAO: The results to the Assembly elections have raised many questions with regards to politicians and their future, particularly in Salcete where the results have thrown quite a bit of surprises.
The question in everybody’s mind is whether politicians who have tasted defeat for the second consecutive time will retire from politics and give others a chance. Heading this list is Joaquim Alemao who has been defeated for the second consecutive time in Cuncolim constituency.
The Bharatiya Janata Party too has a similar dilemma as its candidates have been rejected by the electorate for two or more times. Sharmad Pai Raiturkar, the BJP candidate from Margao has been defeated for the third time. He was earlier defeated at the 2005 bye elections and 2007 general elections.
Similarly, its Fatorda candidate Damodar alias Damu Naik has lost for the second time in a row having lost earlier in the 2012 elections to Vijai Sardesai who was an Independent candidate then.
