Defector MLAs purchased by BJP for Rs 30-40 cr, alleges Cong leader

‘Good riddance to bad rubbish’ was the general consensus as Congress vowed to restructure party

PANJIM: All India Congress Committee (AICC) Goa desk in-charge Dinesh Gundu Rao on Thursday alleged that each rebel Congress MLA was paid Rs 30 crore to Rs 40 crore to switch sides and join the BJP.

Rao, who air-dashed to Goa following the split in the Congress Legislative Party, said that the second round of garbage has gone from the party. The first round of garbage left in 2019, when 10 rebel MLAs had quit the party, he added. He said that the three remaining MLAs will take up issues concerning the people, and reiterated that the party will not readmit defectors. “We will reorganise the party,” Rao said.

He recalled that the 8 defectors, led by Margao MLA Digambar Kamat had read out the oath that they will not defect, adding that the defectors had no fear of God. “These defectors have not gone to BJP to do good for people but for their selfish gains. They have joined for the sake of power, money and because of threats from central agencies,” said Rao.
