FATORDA: In a match marred with controversial FC Goa’s goals, Coach Sergio Lobera was content with the result and said, “I’m pleased that we scored two goals against a team which has managed to keep five clean sheets. It wasn’t easy to score the goals against Jamshedpur FC, a team that had lost just two games at this point in time.”
FC Goa’s Lanzarote scored a brace – a goal in the either half. However, both the goals scored seemed to be due to refereeing errors, but Sergio believes that his team deserved the win.
“We deserved lot more than what we got so far. When it’s a penalty it was obvious and it wasn’t the luck,” Sergio explained.
While the video footage showed the Andre Bikey won the ball before he tipped Brandon Fernandes for the team’s first goal which was scored by Lanzarote from the spot.
“This wasn’t the best game the Gaurs have played in the league and earned three points,” Sergio lamented.
“I think there are games where we have played better and haven’t managed to win. Today has been the game where we suffered quite a bit. But for a team which knows how to win, should also know how to suffer,” he explained.
Despite breaking the strong Jamshedpur defence, FC Goa once again failed to keep the clean sheet. Though the Gaurs missed various opportunities to inflate the score, Sergio spoke about their poor defence that has conceded so many soft goals this season.
“I won’t complain of the chances we didn’t take but I would rather complain of the goals we conceded. We have to aim to keep the clean sheet and we haven’t achieved it yet. We have to improve defensively.”
FC Goa player Lanzarote was seen getting involved with the officials too often and Sergio said that refs deserve a lot of respect.
“I think the whole world talks a lot of the refs. I think we should respect the referees and their decisions. I don’t think pressing the ref is good for the league. And it’s not just Lanzarote who talks to them but everyone else too, which is not acceptable. And I think they deserve a lot more respect.”
Jamshedpur FC Coach Steve Coppell said, “Overall I thought we deserved a point. In the first half an hour we stopped them in doing what they wanted to do. It would have been good if we would have taken our chances. If we continue to play with the desire and will to win, we will be there. We will get ready now for the next match.”
