PANJIM: Comparing the annual DefExpo with any other regular commercial consumer shoppe, Union Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar on Friday said that neither would any land be acquired nor permanent structure or infrastructure created for the defence exhibition in Goa, which will be held in March.
Addressing the gathering at Goa Velha at the foundation stone laying ceremony of second Zuari bridge, Parrikar said there are eight states that have approached the ministry seeking to host the event in their state on a permanent basis.
“Some people are misleading people on the issue of DefExpo in Goa. There are few people who oppose it. But at the same time there are proposals from eight states which want this event to be held in their states,” the Union Minister said.
“Lot has been spoken about the DefExpo but let me say that no permanent infrastructure or construction would be done in the State to hold the event. It is just like any other consumer shopee,” he added.
“There will be no land acquisition to host DefExpo. It will be held in a temporary structure where defence equipment would be on display,” Parrikar said.
The former chief minister said Goans will get an opportunity to see the defence equipment and it will be a learning experience for students.
