ARAMBOL: The non functioning of street lights for almost a year in Arambaol have upset locals and have lashed out at the Power Minister in particular and government in general for neglecting their village.
Locals say that it over a year that the Goa Tourism and Development Corporation (GTDC) had completed the road widening and beautification work on the Paliem-Arambol stretch. Later, street lights fixtures were fitted along the Bhoma-Arambol and inaugurated by the Chief Minister Pramod Sawant with much fanfare but they were never functional and commuting along the dark stretches at night has become extremely difficult, say locals.
“These lamps were installed at the cost of taxpayer and it only shows how public money is wasted by the government. The area is still in darkness and it would better if the GTDC uproot and take them away instead,” said an agitated local Ulhas Palyekar.
“The power minister on one hand says that the State has enough electricity and at the same time asks people to utilise the energy carefully. Common men use electricity and pay their bills on time while the government comes up with schemes for elite businessmen who reap maximum benefits at the cost of the taxpayer,” said another local Namdev Tulaskar.
