Artist from Kavlem, Sanket Narvekar, who had created a Dekhava, said that he received a phone call from the Director of Art and Culture on Saturday informing about the cancelation of Dekhava competition. The reason given is that only six entries were received due to COVID-19 pandemic and so it was cancelled.

He said that after government declaring the competition he had spent a lot of money on making Dekhava but now the competition is cancelled and our money is wasted.

“I understand government’s decision but once you declare a competition how can suddenly cancel it as we have wasted a lot of money and time. The government gave us some compensation because it’s not our mistake,” Sanket said.

It may be recalled that the government had organised Matoli and Dekhvaa competitions. However, Dekhava artists are informed that only Dekhava competition stands cancelled.
