MARGAO: Fatorda Police arrested a 32-year-old youth, native of Bijapur, Karnataka, while committing theft of a mobile phone from the dicky of a scooter parked near Fatorda stadium.
According to the police, Head Constable Nilesh Kasker of Fatorda Police Station, who was posted on patrolling duty near the stadium, caught the alleged accused Santosh Kattimani red-handed while committing theft of mobile phone from the dicky of a scooter parked near Fatorda stadium. The alleged accused was doing some suspicious activity near the scooter and trying to open the dicky when he was questioned by the Head Constable on duty.
The alleged accused was then detained and brought at the Fatorda Police Station where he was interrogated.
Based on the complaint lodged by a resident of Colmorod, Navelim, an offence under Section 379 of IPC was registered against the alleged accused and lodged him in police custody. He was produced before the Judicial Magistrate First Class (JMFC) Margao and remanded for two days.
The police said that the complainant had come for jogging and parked her scooter near the stadium by keeping her mobile duly locked in the dicky, which was stolen.
During the investigation, the culprit also confessed to the theft of Rs 32,000 cash from a bike in Mapusa, on September 7.
The police said that two mobile phones, one screwdriver-cum-tester, one wallet containing one ATM card, one Pan Card and one aadhaar Card has been recovered.
