MARGAO: Inordinate delay in making the payments towards the architectural fees has once again scuttled plans to complete the Cuncolim Chieftain’s memorial park at Cuncolim, well before the commemoration of the 1583 revolt on July 15 at Cuncolim.
Given that work on the project stands grounded for the last five months after the Cuncolim Civic body failed to pay fees for the architect, the Cuncolim Municipal Council has convened a special meeting of the Council on Tuesday to take stock of the situation.
Herald understands that work has not commenced even after the Civic body had a meeting with the stakeholders, including the architect and the contractor, a month ago. The reason cited for the delay was the Council’s failure to pay the architect his fees by the Civic body. This has resulted in the contractor withholding work on the project for want of architectural designs and drawings to go ahead with the work.
When contacted, CMC Chairperson Devendra Desai confirmed that he has convened a special meeting of the Council on Tuesday to discuss the Chieftain’s memorial project.
Meanwhile, Councillor Poonam P N Dessai has written letters to members of the Chieftain Memorial Committee stating that the project is held up from February last due to non-submission of architectural drawings and details by the Cuncolim Municipality to the contractor. “I personally tried to make a move to complete the work before July 15, but till date, the CMC is not making any serious efforts to complete the project. I have even written to the Director of Municipal Administration Elvis Gomes to look into the issue,” she stated in her letter.
She further pointed that the Civic body has not done the payments of the architect and has reportedly misplaced the architect’s file.
