Delay in releasing turtle hatchlings: Forest guard transferred

PANJIM: Immediately after the investigatory report pertaining to intentional delay by the forest guard in releasing the turtle hatchlings was published on the Herald, the Goa Forest Department taking cognisance of this illegality transferred the forest guard from Turtle nesting site Morjim to the Range Forest Office Wildlife, Campal.

Stating that the Olive Ridley sea turtle species are recognised as vulnerable by the IUCN Red list and are protected under Wildlife Protection Act, 1972 schedule I, the Deputy Conservator of Forests (DCF), Jabestin A said the departmental staff should be work orientated and should not indulge themselves in any illegal activities that will cause harm to the wildlife.

Herald had highlighting the illegal activity of this intentional delaying of release of Olive Ridley Sea turtle hatchlings into the Morjim sea water by the forest guard working at Morjim turtle nesting site, for his vested interest.
