MAPUSA: A Delhi family’s visit to Goa proved tragic when the husband died after he was struck by a lightning bolt at Calangute beach on Friday.
The deceased, 35-year-old Chaitanya Nagpal along with his family had come on a visit to Goa. He sustained severe injuries on the chest due to lightning that struck him at around 4 pm.
The deceased was given first aid immediately by the Dristi Lifeguard and thereafter rushed to the District Hospital at Mapusa where he was declared dead on arrival by the medical officer on duty.
His pregnant wife who was with him was in a state of shock after her husband was struck by lightning and was provided medical attention.
A case of unnatural death was registered at Calangute Police station.
The body of the deceased has been preserved at Goa Medical College (GMC) Morgue at Bambolim and arrangements are being made to refer the body for post-mortem examination for ascertaining the exact cause of death.
