Delhi model of healthcare is only a hype: Vishwajit

Says registration of couples for IVF treatment free of cost has begun at Goa Medical College and Hospital’s super-speciality block

PANJIM: Health Minister Vishwajit Rane on Friday flayed the ‘Delhi model’ of health care initiated by the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government in the national capital, saying it was only a media hype.

“ The Delhi model is only a hype model…Goa is the only State, globally also, where IVF treatment is being given to patients free of charge,” he said after kicking-off the registration of couples for In-vitro Fertilisation (IVF) treatment free of charge at the Goa Medical College and Hospital’s (GMCH) super-speciality block at Bambolim.

He said, “Many times in the area of healthcare, everybody talks of this so-called model called the Delhi model. I am saying this is a Goa model. And, in this Goa model, we are trying to reach out to the people of the state, trying to provide services to the citizens to put a smile on their faces.”

Rane said he does not want to replicate the model of any other State but to have Goa’s own model. The Goa model will be replicated across the country, not the Delhi model, he added.

The Health Minister said the model will be talked about not only in the country but across the world.

He said within the next six months, the country will start emulating and talking about the Goa model which will encompass super-specialty treatments within the area of public healthcare.

However, reacting sharply to the Health Minister’s statement, AAP Benaulim MLA Capt Venzy Viegas said, no amount of rhetoric can run down the globally acclaimed healthcare system of AAP Delhi government.

“No amount of rhetoric can run down the globally acclaimed healthcare system of AAP Delhi government led by our leader @ArvindKejriwal. The IVF centre at GMC is an appreciable initiative. But before resorting to bravado to catch headlines, spare a thought for Goa’s pathetic PHCs,” Viegas tweeted.
