DELIBERATE ATTEMPT? South Collectorate ‘intimates’ job seekers for skill tests with incomplete addresses

Letters posted by office pertaining to job recruitment process just mention the name of the candidate, village and taluka; citizens suspect these are deliberate attempts to ensure that candidates miss the skill tests; Collector assures all candidates will be intimated from Sept 29 onwards

MARGAO: Call it utter negligence or a deliberate attempt to ensure that candidates miss the skill test? In a shocking revelation it has come to light that several letters posted by the South Goa Collectorate office with regards to intimation for skill tests pertaining to the job recruitment process are found with incomplete addresses, just mentioning the candidate’s name and the name of the village and taluka, which has resulted in utter confusion.

However, South Goa Collector Asvin Chandra, IAS, assured that all the candidates will be intimated on the skill tests from September 29 onwards.

The authority has prepared the list of the eligible candidates for the skill test with incomplete addresses despite the applicant mentioning their postal addresses in the application forms.

Assuring that checking will be done with regard to the addresses, the Collector urged the candidates to log on to the website to download their admit card if they had not received the letters.

Sources informed even the postmen are confused as they find it difficult to search for the incomplete addresses, and hence there are possibilities that the letters could be returned back to the Collectorate office.

It is pertinent to note that after years of delays and disappointment, there was a hope for thousands of job seekers, as the South Goa Collectorate had resumed its recruitment for 147 vacant posts. This recruitment drive, which commenced in February 2019, originally attracted approximately 24,668 applications but encountered various setbacks that prolonged the process.

Two days ago, a public notice was issued by South Goa Collector A Ashvin Chandra informing the eligible candidates who had applied for group ‘C’ positions. These positions encompass roles of junior stenographer, talathi, lower division clerk, and multi-tasking staff, including candidates recommended by the Employment Exchange and the Department of Sainik Welfare, across different categories. The skill tests for candidates will commence on September 29.

Rodney D’Souza, a citizen, expressed his frustration and suspected that there were deliberate attempts to ensure that candidates missed the scheduled skill tests.

How come the authorities post the letters with incomplete addresses, when the details are provided by the applicants while submitting the application forms? Most residing in the remote areas will miss the opportunity to answer the tests, which they had been waiting for the past few years, he added.

He alleged that this is total negligence on the part of the staff engaged in compiling the list of candidates.

When contacted by O Heraldo, South Goa Collector Asvin Chandra said, “We are checking it. But primarily anyone can download their admit card on the South Goa Collectorate website by just searching their name.”

He also informed that SMS and emails will be sent to all the eligible candidates and admit card is not compulsory as only photo ID will be enough to enter the skill test centre.
