PERNEM: While setting up the new Mopa Airport Police Station, some villages which were under the jurisdiction of Pernem Police Station were divided and attached to the Mopa Police Station.
The panchayat area was used as the criteria while doing the division although other factors were not taken into the consideration.
“Senior government officials have not kept in mind the geographical location of Mopa Airport and villages of Torxem, Tamboxem, Mopa and Uguem. For these villages, Pernem Police Station is about 15 to 20 minutes away. The complainants as well as the police can reach each other easily. It would be inconvenient for people to travel to Mopa Airport Police Station to file complaints considering the traffic,” said Vyankatesh Naik, chairman of Pernem Taluka Vikas Samiti.
“The delegation of the Samiti will call on the Chief Officer and Director General of Police and present a written appeal regarding the issue,” Naik added.
