Taking serious cognizance of the incident wherein a Delhi-based medical student died in water sports activity at Baga, the Government has directed Tourism Department to demarcate ‘water sports zone.’
“We have asked the Tourism Department to demarcate water sports zone at all beaches in assistance with Goa police. We have also cautioned water sports operators not to interfere at these points,” Chief Secretary Sanjay Shrivastava told Herald.
Shrivastava said that the water sports operators are asked to compulsorily implement on the demarcations failing which action will be initiated. So also, flags showing swimming and non-swimming zones, safety and non-safety zones should be clearly put up.
The decision was taken in a meeting with top level senior officials and bureaucrats after Shrey Makhija (21), a final year medical student at Delhi died due to injury as the jet-ski in which he was traveling dashed against a stationary boat, a week ago.
Shrey along with his friends was in Goa after answering his exams. They hired a boat at Baga and while returning back to the shore, the boat man allegedly took a rash and negligent turn and collided into a stationary boat. The impact of the collision was such that Shrey dashed against the stationary boat and fell in the water.
While he died on way to the hospital, one of his friends who also lost balance and fell in the water luckily survived.
