PONDA: The Kavlem gram sabha on Sunday adopted a resolution asking the panchayat to immediately demolish the scrap yards operating illegally in the village.
Chairing the meeting, Sarpanch Rajesh Kavlekar said that more than four scrap yards are operating in the village and most of them are owned by the locals who have given the yards on rent to migrants.
The villagers also demanded to clear illegal gaddas being operated by the locals on roadside in the panchayat areas.
They also adopted a resolution to conduct a survey of all shops, houses, including rental premises, in the village for collecting proper house tax from them.
Sarpanch Kavlekar informed that the farmers at Kavlem from this year are cultivating the fallow lands with the support of Madavrao Dhavlikar Trust which helped them to clean the land filled with garbage and bushes.
The locals asked the panchayat to send a letter to the government asking for transport hub as most of the trucks are parked on highway at Kavlem causing nuisance to locals.
The sarpanch informed the villagers that the panchayat is making efforts to get NOC from an owner to set up a mini garbage plant to treat wet garbage of the panchayat.
The locals brought to the notice of the sarpanch that the villagers of neighbouring Talavalim Panchayat are dumping garbage at Paunwada in Kavlem and demanded that they be fined for the offence.
