Though the demolition squad headed by Deputy Collector Sangeeta Naik had ordered the agencies to report to the Areal panchayat on Friday morning, only the Executive Magistrate, Police and BDO representatives turned up, leaving the squad with no option than to postpone the demolition exercise. Menino Santan Fernandes, who had complained to the Panchayat and other agencies to get the goalposts removed on grounds that they have been erected on private open space reserved for the plot owners of Sonu Township, has suspected foul play behind the postponement. He has sought details from the demolition squad on the matter and has asked for security from the district police chief.
Demolition at Areal postponed
MARGAO: The planned demolition of goal posts from the property of Sonu Township at Sao Jose de Areal was sabotaged for want of PWD labourers. In fact, the demolition was postponed at the eleventh hour after the PWD labourers played truant by not reporting to the Sao Jose de Areal village panchayat.
