Demolition of old Panjim municipality building to start today

The new building will be built by the Goa State Infrastructure Development Corporation (GSIDC) and the project will be completed within next two to three years.

PANJIM: The work of constructing new ultra-modern building for Corporation of City of Panaji (CCP) will commence with the demolition of the portion of old building which houses offices of BSNL and telegraph, from Thursday.

CCP Mayor Rohit Monserrate on Wednesday said that the process of demolishing the old building will start and subsequently the CCP will construct a new five-storeyed building at an estimated cost of Rs 60 crore. He said that the new building will be built in phases and in the first phase, a portion of the old municipal building will be demolished and new building will be constructed there by spending Rs 11 crore. 

The new building will be built by the Goa State Infrastructure Development Corporation (GSIDC) and the project will be completed within next two to three years. 

Monserrate said that the shops which are situated on the other side of the building along the 18th June Road would be shifted in the new building once it is built. The agreement with the shop owners is being finalised, he added.

The entire basement will be completely reserved for parking while the first two floors will house shops and other commercial offices. The CCP office will be situated on the third floor.
