Demolition of Porvorim structures kept in abeyance

Group of residents took up the matter with the North Goa District Collector and Mapusa Deputy Collector

PANJIM: The District Collector, North Goa has kept in abeyance the order on the demolition of age-old structures in Porvorim. The order comes after a group of Porvorim residents launched a protest against the order.
The delegation which met District Collector R Menaka on Tuesday, were informed that the order has been kept in abeyance. Earlier, the delegation had met the Deputy Collector at Mapusa, who claimed that the order for demolition was issued by Collector’s office.
In support of the cause, Porvorim MLA Rohan Khaunte had said that while fresh illegal constructions are ignored, the district administration issued notices to the age old structures, dating back to more than five decades, which fall in comunidade properties and whose process for regularization is going on.
With the present order, the locals have heaved a sigh of relief.
