VASCO: Contrary to the claims of the officials from Urban Health Centre Vasco that dengue is under control in the port town, a number of suspected dengue cases have been reported at the Chicalim Cottage Hospital and other private clinics in port town.
Health officer of Urban Health Centre, Vasco, Dr Rashmi Khandeparkar, says the situation is not alarming and added that she has been making all efforts to check the spread of dengue. To keep the situation under the control, we have conducted spraying and fogging in these areas.”
“We have not received any dengue positive cases but only 6 suspected ones from different areas of Mormugao constituency in last few days including Cottage Hospital at Chicalim. We have been taking all precautionary measures to keep dengue cases under control. Also we have been focussing on those areas where such cases have been reported and our team has been regularly taking up spraying and fogging in all wards where malaria or suspected dengue cases have been reported,” Khandeparkar informed.
On the other hand, doctors from Vasco and those who have their blood testing labs claim that the disease has been spreading at an alarming rate and they had been noticing a “significant surge” in the number of cases.
“This month I received five dengue positive cases and six malaria cases and patients have been given medication,” said Vaddem-based physician Dr Pedro Bravo D Costa.
Meanwhile, Headland Sada residents and their ward councillors have raised serious concerns over the rise in number of suspected dengue cases. They have urged the concerned authorities to take up the matter seriously.
“I am shocked to hear that around two-three people from Headland Sada have been affected by dengue. I request the residents to keep their surrounding clean. Similarly, on behalf of the locals, I appeal to the Health Department to take precautionary measures to keep dengue cases under control, by fogging and spraying the areas in Headland Sada frequently,” said Councillor Bhawana Bhosle.
