Denmark eyes trade bonds with Goa

Sees tremendous potential in deep sea fishing, agriculture and water technology; seeks to restart charter flights which were stopped due to Covid-19 pandemic

PANJIM: Ambassador of Denmark to India Freddy Svane on Saturday said that Denmark would invest in dairy, fishing and provide its technology in water supply to the State. He also said that he will try to restart charter flights from Denmark to Goa, which were stopped due to Covid-19 pandemic.

Svane said, “We are looking for lot of cooperation in the years ahead. We are ready to work with Goa. Surely soon we will announce investments in Goa. This is my first visit and when I am coming back, you can ask all the questions and if we have achieved it, the answer will be yes. We are committed on our side.”

Stating that there is huge potential for tourism in the State, Svane said that he will try to bring back Goa on track by restarting charter flights from Denmark to the touristic State, which was stopped during the time of pandemic. “When the Covid-19 pandemic hit India and other parts of the world, and we wanted to bring back our people, Goa was the first State to help,” he said.

Svane said that within a very short span of time, a Danish company will come up with tangible investment project in the State. “It will be pretty important investment in Goa which the company officials will announce,” he said.

When asked how the Denmark technology would work in the State given the different climatic conditions between the two countries, Svane said, “We are not here to tell you what to do, we are here to inspire you. We see that deep sea fishing and agriculture could be potential in Goa.”

When asked about collaboration for water supply in the State, Svane said, “We have a strong water cluster in Denmark. All drinking water in Denmark comes from underground. We will inspire Goa government how to take it. In future you will be happy to see what we declared today, you will see happening within a short span of time.”

Svane said that Denmark had already tied-up with Tamil Nadu, Uttar Pradesh, Aasam and Rajasthan, and will expand this collaboration to Goa. “I have given my commitment,” he said.

Chief Minister Pramod Sawant on his X handle stated that he interacted with the Ambassador of Denmark in India and discussed various possible avenues in industrial park, fisheries, health, agriculture, animal husbandry and veterinary services and the cultural sector with cooperation in technology to strengthen bonds and trade between Denmark and Goa.
