PANJIM: All Goa Secondary School Teachers’ Association (AGSSTA) is set to take on the government for utilizing manpower from the teaching community for election duty and conducting exams for recruiting personnel in government services.
Objecting to this, President of AGSSTA Dattatray Naik said, “The teaching community is required to
focus all its attention exclusively for the all-round development of children
in school and not for election duty and other government duties.”
The executive committee of AGSSTA which met on Wednesday has decried the deployment of teachers from almost all schools in the State for election duty for the forthcoming Lok Sabha polls.
Deployment of teachers to conduct written exams for candidates applying for government jobs was also found unacceptable.
The association pointed out further that out of the 50,000 staff who would be on election duty a sizeable number are from the teaching community.
AGSSTA has also objected to a cut in Part B arrears from the GPF and reduction in Part B scales to the teaching community.
The association has expressed surprise that the latest circular pertaining to school timings of five hours and 30 minutes even though issued has not been sent to schools and that the matter is being kept under wraps.
Another meeting is scheduled in March at which AGSSTA will be deliberating on all the issues irking the teaching community in Goa.
