Dept available to provide technical expertise for Atal Setu: PWD Min

PANJIM: Taking note of Herald TV’s news coverage about the potholes on the Atal Setu bridge, PWD minister Nilesh Cabral has said that the bridge is not under the jurisdiction of the PWD.

The PWD minister pointed out that it is under the jurisdiction of the GSIDC, which had tendered the construction of the bridge. “The issue has been coming in the press. The issue is also of tar melting (on the Atal Setu). The work has been given to a company. However PWD is available to provide technical expertise for the same,” Nilesh Cabral said. “If they want technical expertise, we have it,” Cabral added.

Asked about the failure of water supply, Cabral said even if there is power failure for a few seconds the whole water mechanism fails. “We will try to put underground cabling. In Selaulim, we have put a dedicated 33KVA line from the Sub Station to Selaulim dam. At other dams too we will try to take a direct power line to the water plant”, he said.

“We will ensure dedicated feeders in water supply”, he said.

Asked about disaster preparedness, PWD Minister said the subject is put under PWD. “We are making teams. We are arranging machinery and manpower to face up to disasters”, he said.
