PANJIM: Tourism Minister Rohan Khaunte said the Tourism Department will put its best foot forward to promote the cultural tourism in the State.
Khaunte said that the Tourism Department will try to provide financial assistance to folk troupes to preserve and boost Goan culture.
Khaunte was speaking at the prize distribution function organised by Panjim Shigmotsav Samiti on Sunday.
“In early era, traditional activities such as Shigmotsav, drama was the only source of entertainment for people across Goa. With entry of electronic gadgets such as television and radio, people have started to forget the old culture and are now shifting to the modern culture,” he said.
“Organising such competitions is one of the best ways to keep our tradition alive. Efforts will be put to revive the cultural tourism”, added Khaunte.
Shrinivas Dempo, President of Panjim Shigmotsav Samiti said that the Panjim Shigmotsav Samiti will put in all efforts to make it a huge event in the coming years.
At this time the awards for various categories including folk dance, floats, fancy dress (senior and junior category) was distributed to the winners.
The awards of Shigmotsav competition 2020, the distribution of which was deferred due to pandemic were also distributed to the winners of 2020 at this occasion.
