Deputy Collector directs Uguem quarry owners to suspend operations

SANGUEM: Following complaints from the Uguem locals alleging illegal extraction and operations of basalt quarries in the village, Sanguem Deputy Collector Ajay Gaude directed the concerned quarry owners to immediately suspend their operations.
Gaude issued strict directions to the Sanguem Mamlatdar to prepare a checklist of the operations of illegal basalt quarries in Uguem and submit a report immediately.
He directed the quarry operators to produce the documents pertaining to the operation of the quarries, the licenses and permissions issued by Mines Directorate.
Besides visiting the basalt quarries, Gaude visited the houses and a temple in which have been affected allegedly due to the large scale high intensity blasting operations.
Earlier, the villagers had lodged a complaint before the Deputy Collector Sanguem on the illegal blasting operations by the quarry operators in the village due to which the locals claimed that their houses had developed cracks. The villagers claimed that the newly constructed temple had developed cracks.
Panch Sanjay Parwar claimed that the blasting operations have been going on for many years despite frequent complaints by the villagers.
Despite letters to the top officials, the authorities failed to initiate any action, claimed Parwar, while appreciating Sanguem Deputy Collector Ajay Gaude’s immediate action.
