The Sirsaim gram sabha on Sunday took a violent turn after a villager allegedly assaulted the deputy sarpanch.
Sirsaim Deputy Sarpanch Ashok Padiwal filed a police complaint with the Mapusa police with the regard.
According to police, Padiwal has accused a villager for slapping him on the face during a discussion at the gram sabha. He also accused two other villagers of abusing him and threatening him with dire consequences.
The deputy sarpanch was assaulted while he was clarifying his stand on illegal constructions activities in the village.
Police have registered a case under Sections 323, 352, 504, 506 (11) of the Indian Penal Code against the accused.
