MARGAO: The Cuncolim unit of the BJP on Saturday strongly condemned the morcha taken to the residence and office of party MLA Rajan Naik by Sanvorcotto flood victims.
Local party leader Ramesh Desai demanded to know how many people had called on the MLA with their plea for enhanced compensation. “They should have come and met the MLA for maximum compensation. We do not know how the people were permitted by the authorities to take out a morcha when they had served notice to hold a rasta roko,” he said.
He said the morcha was taken to the MLA’s residence when he has been trying his best for maximum compensation, especially for the people whose compound walls were damaged in the flooding. Referring to the visit of South Goa MP Francisco Sardinha to the flood-hit area of Sanvorcotto, Ramesh demanded to know why the MP did not take the local MLA into confidence before visiting the area.
Premanand Kalekar said the government is seized of the damage caused to compound walls and other houses by the July 2 floods, adding that efforts are on to pay maximum compensation to the victims.
Maruti Desai, Vishal Desai, Shankar Desai, who briefed the media, also condemned the morcha taken out by the people to the MLA’s residence.
