VALPOI: The body of 25-year-old Subhash Krishna Chorlekar from Derode, Valpoi who went missing on Wednesday after he was washed away in the waters of an overflowing river was on late Thursday evening traced by the villagers in the river.
The villagers later informed the police who rushed to spot and conducted the panchanama.
According to the Valpoi Police, the incident took place at round 10.30 pm on Wednesday, when Subhash and his friend were proceeding to Derode on a bike. When they reached the bridge in the village, suddenly following heavy downpour the river water overflowed on the bridge due to which Subhash and his friend were washed away along with their bike.
Luckily, Subhash’s friend managed to climb a tree and was forced to spend the whole night on it.
On Thursday morning, the friend visited Subhash’s house and learnt that the family members had gone out searching for Subhash.
Later, the friend narrated the incident to Subhash’s family, who filed a missing complaint at the Valpoi Police Station.
The Valpoi police and fire brigade started the search operations.
Earlier in the day, Sattari mamlatdar Anil Rane on Thursday visited in the rural areas and inspected the sites of the people affected due to heavy rains.
