Derode locals oppose Forest Dept’s move to install watch tower

Say after installing the watch tower, the Dept will not allow them to visit their cashew plantations

SATTARI: Opposing the Forest Department’s move to install a watch tower in the village, Derode locals claimed that the land where they have their cashew plantations belongs to their ancestors. 

Stating that they have been residing in the village for several decades, the villagers alleged that the Forest Department is planning to capture their cashew plantations near forest area claiming it to be forest property. 

After installing the watch tower in the village, the Forest Department will not allow them to visit their cashew plantations, the locals charged.

Laxman Gaonkar, a villager said, “We strongly oppose the construction of watch tower by the Forest department in our village.”

Another villager Kusta Gaonkar said, “We oppose the forest watch tower in our village. By installing the watch tower the department will not allow us to visit our plantations. So we are raising our voice against this tower since past many days. But no one is listening to our voice.”
