Deshprabhu’s brother files complaint against false rumours that he is suffering from COVID-19

Pernem: The brother of former Pernem MLA (late) Jitendra Deshprabhu has filed a police complaint against unknown persons for spreading fake  WhatsApp messages, which claim that he is suffering from COVID-19 and has been admitted in GMC.

In his complaint to the Pernem Police Inspector, Devendra Deshprabhu also pointed out that the unknown persons are also claiming that Pernem is a corona hotspot by using a photograph of a news report recently published in a Marathi newspaper, which is creating fear and panic amongst the public; and demanding that Pernem be sealed and people from Pernem be checked.

The complainant also stated that false information has been circulated that his brother (late) Jitendra had driven to Mumbai a week before his death to bring back his daughter or that Jitendra had died due to COVID-19.

Adding that the ‘false’ message has been made viral to mislead the public, he said,” My family, including my brother’s wife and children and myself are safe and comfortable at home. The culprits have caused irreparable distress to my family, friends, well-wishers and myself.”

He also termed it as an attempt to get the public to lose faith in governance and its health and law enforcement machinery.

He also asked the police to take strict action against the accused persons.

Pernem police have registered a case under section 188 and 505 (1)(b) of IPC against unknown persons.
