Desilting works halted at Marman ship dock in Sancoale by locals and Cortalim MLA

Locals of Sancoale and members of Sancoale Bio-Diversity Committee along with Cortalim MLA Anton Vaz halted the desilting works at Marman ship dock in Sancoale. Sancoale Bio-Diversity committee member Eddie Fernandes asserts that the permissions for desilting were taken over a year ago from the Mormugao Port Authority and a NOC was not obtained from the panchayat, the TCP, or the WRD. Shipyard representative Abhinav Godbole said that he has valid permission from the MPA and GCZMA, and added works are being carried out for desilting and must not be confused with dredging.

VO: Cortalim MLA Anton Vaz also pointed out the risks desilting poses for human life since locals in the area collect oysters and clams near the shore. He added that the hollow surface could lead to death by drowning.
