CUNCOLIM: Despite having door-to-door garbage collection facilities in the Cuncolim Municipal area, the town is facing a severe threat from the garbage menace.
Concerned locals belittle the menace makers by stating that indisciplined and those people who do not have civic sense dump garbage in the open. Cuncolim Municipal Council (CMC) workers collect both wet and dry garbage on daily basis from house to house. People pay garbage fees to CMC.
A local lamented, “In spite of better facilities to collect garbage, some people throw waste in the open. One can see garbage heaps near Maddicotto Multipurpose hall. Garbage is also dumped in the open at the industrial estate gate.”
Recently CMC Chairperson Laxman Naik has declared black spots of garbage at Dandora, Maddicotto, Comba, Demani, IDC and Veroda. The Council has even erected signboards at various places informing that those found dumping garbage in the open will be fined, but it has not deterred the wrong-doers. And the CMC too has not punished a single person for dumping garbage in the open.
The Cuncolim Municipal Council has requested the general public to cooperate with CMC in keeping the town clean and beautiful.
