PANJIM: Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar on Saturday told President Ram Nath Kovind that despite Goa facing a ban on the mining industry, the government did not allow the development process to suffer.
“Despite the setback received on account of the ban on mining, one of the engines of economic growth in the State, we did not let the development process suffer,” Parrikar said.
The civic reception was also attended by India’s first lady Savita Kovind, Governor Mridula Sinha, Speaker Dr Pramod Sawant, former CM Pratapsingh Rane and Panjim Mayor Vitthal Chopdekar.
“Major projects like national highways, bridges, waste management and water supply are being undertaken. Goa is poised to take off to the next level of development and become a model for the rest of the country,” he added.
Parrikar also told the President that Goa joined Union of India much later but has made tremendous progress since then. “Some of our social indicators are best in the country,” he said.
