PANJIM: Sanjeev C Gauns Dessai took over as the new Director of Tourism on Tuesday, replacing IAS officer Ameya Abhyankar. Dessai, a Goa Civil Service cadre officer, will oversee the department’s role in the maintenance of beach cleanliness, beach safety, tourist policing, the long pending master plan and other tourism policies.
The officer was Deputy Collector (Revenue), North Goa before his promotion to (Grade I) Senior Scale on November 27 and appointment as Tourism Director. “I am happy to take up this new assignment and looking forward to reviewing and strengthening all the necessary measures and steps needed to make Goa a top tourist destination,” he said.
“It will be my endeavour to ensure safety and security of tourists, in addition to providing better facilities, activities and give tourism a boost that will also benefit the State’s economy.”

Abhyankar, on the other hand, has been posted as the IT Director, replacing IAS officer Shilpa Shinde who has been deputed as the Director of Women and Child Development.
